 Cause: A separate Gujarat state has been started for people who speak Gujarati language from the bilingual Mumbai state.
 ➡ The movement took place on August 8, 1956.
 The main figures of this movement were Indulal Yagnik and Morarji Desai.
 In 1948 a MahaGujarat convention was held under the leadership of Gujarati speaking people which led to the formation of the state of Gujarat.
 On December 5, 1953, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru formed the State Reorganization Commission (SRC) to create linguistic states.
 ➡ This committee was Judge Fazal Ali.
 Andhra Pradesh was established in 1953.  This was followed by the demand for linguistic separate states across the country.
 àª²ા Indulal Yagnik founded MahaGujarat Janata Parishad to direct the movement.
 ➡ Which lasted till May 1, 1960 and the state of Gujarat was established.
 After the success of the agitation, the maharashtra janatha Parishad was dissolved.
 In the new government, Jivraj Mehta became the first Chief Minister of Gujarat.
